June 2023 Amsterdam, Rijksakademie Open Studios
Mut@tion is a durational performance and installation that is inspired by some funeral rites, rituals, and also the popular culture of circling in Amsterdam. Martin converted a fiets drie wielen into a funeral tricycle. Reconnecting with the fragment of time and energy shared between his apartment and studio. Employing the use of motherboards and electric cables from broken electronics which reflects on the human body as a machine (an object). Referring to body parts like the brain, nervous system and the circulatory system.
Lying in state on a metal installation, some of the cables are connected to his body as a ritual which converts thermal energy (heat from the body) to light. The fragmentation of our coexistence with space and the disintegration of the body before and during death. When our mind and body need to adapt to its new environment creating a collision between different energies.
The work starts with a procession on the street (the artist apartment) with six performers guiding the motionless body on a coffin bike and one performer as the rider. The performance continues for a longer duration in the artist's studio.

Berlin, May 2023 (Three month exhibition with Live performance at Bärenzwinger )
Not Now is a project influenced by nightmares, the struggle and phobia associated with waking up in the middle of the night during a bad dream causing sleep paralysis. I remembered clinging to my bed that faithful evening to pay off the body with a sleep. As my eldest always says to us " abavuvu me dia enya ne ame ooh" meaning, the best place to find peace of mind is one's own bed.
After an inhale and exhale a gentle teleportation massages the nerves to heal them from a long day's work on the wheel of a deed sleep. Overwhelmed by the comforts of rest the body entangled itself with the blanket calling for an emergency landing in a strange world. Inescapable, I feared being trapped in my own death, couldn't breathe, run and even wake up.
Gleaning from several occurrences of this incident, my experience associated with hallucinations and encounter of spaces activate Bärenzwinger with a life performance of my body resurrecting from a graveyard. A sound walk tunnel installation to travel your mind in meditation, poem and wood carvings which evokes memories of the space as a place which inhabits Berlin bears in a period of time.
Performance costume by Precious Debrah.
Sound by Ibukun Sunday.
De Ruimte, January 2023
Dividual space is a series at De Ruimte with music, performance art, dance, visual arts, theater, poetry and spoken word. Dividu is a philosophical idea about man as multiplicity, the ever-changing man, according to philosopher Deleuze. Interesting ideas for the artistic brain!Changing curators challenge a group of artists with very diverse artistic backgrounds to step beyond the boundaries of their own discipline and enter into new collaborations. They come together as artistic minds for some quality time and philosophize about their artistry and their connection. Every artist is asked to bring something of himself, to perform, something for which the moment or place has not been found before. Together they make a program in one day.
Artists involved;
Willie Darktrousers, Vanina Tsvetkova, Laureen Langkamp, Mara van Nes, Martin Toloku and Michelle Samba.
